My first encounter with a class 103. 103.132-7 in Red & Beige livery runs into Mainz HBF on a Northbound IC service. Having “tasted” Belgium and Luxembourg, I dipped my toes into the fascinating world of German Railways. My first visit to the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) was made via Venlo and Koln and I then took in Koblenz via the beautiful Rhine valley. I quickly learnt that Inter City trains in Germany differed quite a bit from Holland and Belgium when I was asked for a supplement of 10 Deutsche Marks – a few quid which I didn’t have as I had no German Currency ! My trip back was on regional trains !
