1145 Built in the early 1950s arrives at Tilburg with a morning Den Haag CS to Venlo / Koln Hbf Inter City (IC) service . The front few coaches are German Railways (DB) “Bm” compartment coaches. These were a revelation to me. 12 compartments with soft fluffy seats and large drop down windows.

I based myself in Tilburg in a hotel straight outside the station which was recommended by Ray Wright. Being new to solo foreign travel I decided to stay in the same location for my stay of 10 days. The furthest extent of the Dutch rail network was reachable in less than three hours. Amsterdam was about 90 minutes away and even cross border routes only an hour so Tilburg was a pretty decent location anyway.
