Airport Shuttle unit 599 at Brussel Noord
The Airport shuttle service used to run from Brussel Centraal station in a short bay platform hidden away at the north end in the gloom. It called at Brussel Noord and then ran to the Airport. In 1992 this half hourly shuttle used a few dedicated 2 car units and this is unit 599 arriving at Brussel Noord from the Airport. The massive rise in air travel at Brussel Airport means that in 2011 the Airport sees four trains an hour from Brussel, one from Quevy, one from Gent St Pieters and one from Brussel. The De Panne service continues via a fairly new spur to Leuven and Landen and the Brussel starters continue as stoppers to Leuven.
